The Gem and Jewellery National Relief Foundation (GJNRF) was given the Jamnalal Bajaj Uchit Vyavahar Puraskar award by the Charitable Association by the Council for Fair Business Practices (CFBP) to recognise both its ethically driven philanthropy and fair business practices. The award was bestowed on the GJNRF at the 35th edition of the CFBP’s awards ceremony on May 16 in Mumbai, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council announced on its website. Former GJEPC chairman and current GJNRF chairman Sanjay Kothari was presented the award by chief guests HDFC Limited’s CEO and vice chairman Keki Mistry and former Supreme Court of India judge B.N. Srikrishna, among other dignitaries.

“I wish to convey my sincere thanks to the previous chairmen of GJNRF, Praveenshankar Pandya and Ketan Parikh,” said Kothari about the award, the GJEPC reported. “The trust has been run very well by all the board members and cooperation of the industry bodies such as GJEPC, GIA, BDB, and IGI, among several others. GJNRF was formed because even though companies were individually doing charitable activities, we wanted to show a human face of the whole industry and have a united agenda.”

The CFBP Jamnalal Bajaj Award ceremony occurred at the Indian Merchants Chamber, Mumbai. The award was first established in 1966 to recognise people and entities which uphold ethical business practices. The GJEPC is one of the backers of the GJNRF, along with other industry bodies.
